Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Acular LS (for the eye) is used to relieve eye itching caused by seasonal allergies.
Acular LS is also used to reduce swelling, pain, and burning or stinging after cataract surgery or corneal refractive surgery.
Ophthalmic anti-inflammatory medicines are used in the eye to lessen problems that can occur during or after some kinds of eye surgery.
Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Acular LS is used 2 to 4 times per day, depending on the condition you are treating. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully. Prolonged use of NSAID eye drops can lead to serious damage to your eyesight.
For cataract surgery you will begin using the eye drops 1 day before surgery and continue for up to 2 weeks afterward. For corneal refractive surgery the usual dosage is 4 times daily for up to 4 days after surgery.
Each single-use vial (bottle) of this medicine is for use in one eye only. Throw away after one use, even if there is still some medicine left in the vial.
Do not use Acular LS while you are wearing contact lenses.
Do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper can infect your eye, which could lead to serious vision problems.
Do not use the eye drops if the liquid has changed colors or has particles in it. Call your pharmacist for new medicine.
It is recommended that Acular LS ophthalmic solution be used with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies or who are receiving other medications, which may prolong bleeding time.
Concomitant use of topical NSAIDs and topical steroids may increase the potential for healing problems.
Along with its needed effects, ketorolac ophthalmic (the active ingredient contained in Acular LS) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.
Tell your doctor or health care professional if your eye symptoms do not get better within 2 to 3 days. Do not use for longer than directed by your doctor or health care professional.
Keep out of the reach of children. Store this medicine at room temperature between 15 and 25 degrees C (59 and 77 degrees F). Protect from light. If single-use vials are supplied in foil pouches, store vials in the pouch with the pouch ends closed. For standard size vials, throw away any unused eye solution one month after opening. For smaller, single-use vials, throw away each vial after use, and throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
