Rexulti (Brexpiprazole) belongs to class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. Brexpiprazole is used to treat symtoms of schizophrenia. It is also used together with other medications to treat major depressive disorder. This medication works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.
Doctor's prescription is required to use this medicine.
Always take Rexulti (Brexpiprazole) as directed by your physician. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Brexpiprazole comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once daily. Take brexpiprazole at around the same time every day. You can take this medicine with or without food. Do not stop taking except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.
Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Brexpiprazole controls schizophrenia and depression but does not cure these conditions. Continue to take brexpiprazole even if you feel well. Do not stop taking brexpiprazole without talking to your doctor.
Before taking brexpiprazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history. Tell your doctor about all the other prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking and be sure to mention any antidepressants you are taking.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, especially if you are in the last few months of your pregnancy, or if you plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking brexpiprazole, call your doctor. Brexpiprazole may cause problems in newborns following delivery if it is taken during the last months of pregnancy.
Brexpiprazole may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate hazardous machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Rexulti is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

Brexpiprazole may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
• headache
• constipation
• heartburn
• tiredness
• uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body
• dizziness, feeling unsteady, or having trouble keeping your balance
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
• rash
• hives
• itching
• swelling of the eyes, face, mouth, lips, tongue, throat, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
• difficulty breathing or swallowing
• seizures
• shortness of breath
• sore throat, cough, chills, and other signs of infection
• fever, sweating, confusion, fast or irregular heartbeat, and severe muscle stiffness
• unusual movements of your face or body that you cannot control
• falling
• tightening of the neck muscles
• tightness in the throat
Brexpiprazole may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
What happens if I overdose?
In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention. If the victim has collapsed, had a seizure, has trouble breathing, or can't be awakened, immediately call emergency services.
Where should I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children. Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue your normal diet.
What should I avoid while taking Rexulti?
Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated in hot weather. Brexpiprazole can make it harder for your body to control its own temperature. It is easier to become dangerously overheated and dehydrated while you are taking this medicine.
